Quality Sideplate Locksets And Stretto Locksets

Give your interior doors an elevated look with sideplate and steretto locksets. These locksets feature an elongated backplate behind the door knob or lever, allowing you to make a statement with your door hardware - and change the look and feel of an entire room. At Access Residential Hardware, we offer beautiful, high-quality sideplate locksets that are made for style and durability that will last for years to come.

What Is A Sideplate Lockset?

A sideplate lockset is a handleset with an elongated backplate. The backplate is what gives these handlesets a classic, elegant look. On interior doors, sideplate locksets may or may not have a lock. If present, the lock is usually located on the backplate below the door knob or lever, and it’s occasionally located above the handle. Most sideplate locksets are available with either a door knob or a door lever depending on your preference.

What Is A Stretto Lockset?

Stretto is an Italian word meaning “narrow.” Stretto locksets from Emtek are a type of sideplate locksets that have a sleek, narrow design. These come in a variety of styles but generally have a more modern feel due to their long, slender shape.

Passage, Privacy, And Dummy Locksets

Our sideplate and stretto locksets for interior doors are available as passage, privacy, and dummy locksets.

  • Passage locksets are ideal for doors to shared spaces that don’t require a locking mechanism, such as hallways, closets, and entertainment rooms.

  • Privacy locksets feature a locking mechanism and are typically used on bedroom and bathroom doors, where privacy is needed.

  • Dummy locksets have a handle and backplate, but they don’t have a latching mechanism and open simply by pulling. These are used mainly for appearance and are often used on doors such as pantry doors or linen closets.

Measuring For Correct Fit

In order to ensure the correct fit of your locksets and door knobs, there are some measurements you should check before placing an order. Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the borehole where the doorknob is placed. This is usually either 2 ⅜” or 2 ¾”. Borehole diameter is the distance across the borehole at its widest point. Door thickness is the distance between the front and back sides of the door. Be sure to check the specifications for the lockset you’re interested in for any other measurements you need to take.

If you select a lever (handle) instead of a knob for your sideplate lockset, you’ll also need to know if the door is right or left-handed. You'll need to stand on the outside of the door to determine handing. The outside of the door will be the side with a key insert for privacy doors. For passage doors, the outside will be the hallway or exterior room you enter the room with the door from. Once you're standing outside of the door, examine the hinges. If the hinges for the door are on the left side, then the door is left handed. If the hinges are on the right side, then the door is right handed.
